Unique Dutch 17th Century Tax Collector's Chair

$32,000

About

This absolutely stunning chair is a first-half of the 17th century museum piece, made around 1630. It's made of massive oak panels that are handcrafted with medieval tools. The chair is meant to be mounted on a horse-pulled wagon, cart or coach with which the tax collector used to ride around the Dutch 17th century countryside to collect taxes from the farmers that worked the land. There is heavy iron mounting fitted all around the chair, no piece is missing, it has beautiful faded colors of red and green and the general overall condition is just great. The chair has a hatch in the seat that gives access to the inside where the tax payments were thrown in. The coach driver literally sat on his money. This is truly a very remarkable and ultra rare piece, it has been thoroughly examined and appraised by a highly esteemed Dutch antiques expert.
