Unique Sculptural Cubist Armchair in Pine Wood by Giorgio Mariani, Italy 2005

About

Giorgio Mariani (b. 1966) A beautiful, sculptural Cubist armchair in massive asymmetrical blocks of assembled and glued pine with contrasting circular patterns of wood grain at the seat, this stunning and unique piece by woodworker Giorgio Mariani is as much art as it is furniture. Influenced by Italian Futurism, French Cubism, George Nakashima's American Craft movement, and the theories of Universal Design, this work evidences a rigorous, architectural use of craft and material in service of highly imaginative design. Piece unique. Signed and dated with the artist’s lead stamp. Italy, 2005.
