French Art Deco Chaise Longue, Carved Walnut, Upholstered, Circa 1930

About the Item

Fans of the pioneering furniture designer Emile-Jacque Ruhlmann will delight in this glamorous French Art Deco period chaise with a swooping crest of a seat back that rises from the left side to form the right-facing arm, over a single bench cushion, outlined by the walnut frame. More elegant than a fainting couch, the effect is a sculptural statement to use as a daybed or chaise longue in a bedroom or living space, becoming one’s favorite place to lounge and relax. Currently the chaise is upholstered with a nailhead trim around tan ultrasuede of fair condition although the internal cushioning remains firm and comfortable. Subtle carvings in the gently tapered feet indicate every aspect of the design is an opportunity to convey a sense of luxury and good taste. We believe this item to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
