About the Item
Two very confortable chairs in a burnt orange wool fabric, france circa 1936.
Model n° 80343 - signed, stamped and numbered.
Dimensions:
Chair - H: 30" x W: 30"1/2 x D: 39"
Signed Leleu, numbered, stamped.
Motif: Y.Da Silva Bruhns
The original fabric in 1936 was a brown velvet. This fabric is authentic 1950 fabric and the embroidery was applied directly to the fabric at a later time. The legs have been polished but the re-finisher did not damage the stamps or signatures.
Model illustrated in the book “Jules & André Leleu 1989, p. 90” and in “Mobilier decoration No. 5/1946 p.27”
The motif on the back is the same of one found on a rug made by Da Silva Bruhns. The rug was sold in the Christie's Auction sale "Yves Saint Laurent Collection, lot #238".
The same motif can be found on a rug by Da Silva Bruhns illustrated in the book "Leleu Decorateurs Emsembliers", p.348 and in “Mobilier decoration no.3 March 1948".
Provenance: Attorney office, State Secretariat Paris France.
