1952 'Miami' Daybed by Jacques Hitier for the Famous 'Antony' Building, Paris

Extremely rare 'Miami' daybed designed by French architect Jacques Hitier (1917-1999) in 1952 and fabricated by Tubauto, France. This design made its debut at the 1953 'Salons des artistes et decorateurs' exhibition in Paris and was commissioned for use in the world renowned 'Jean Zay/Antony' residence of the Cite university in Paris. Please see IMAGE 3 which illustrates a the 'Miami' daybed in situ in a Hitier designed interior for the 'Antony' building, Paris. The “Jean Zay/Antony” university residence was designed by the world renowned architect, Eugene Beaudoin and was completed in 1954. The interiors of the 'Antony' residence were a flagship for the talents of some of the most influential of the group of "new” French designers and featured designs by key figures such as Jean Prouvé (some in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand) , Serge Mouille, Jacques Hitier, Marcel Gascoin, Raphael, Raoul Guys etc. The Miami' bed features a beautifully formed bent tubular steel frame with an exquisite perforated steel headboard in a grid pattern reminiscent of the work of Matégot during the same period. This classic French mid century design would surely work beautifully alongside the designs of fellow French masters such as Royère, Prouvé, Perriand and Matégot. There is an adjustable mattress foot bar which is operated via the adjustment of two large bolts which allow adjustments in the overall length of the metal spring mattress to some degree to suit the user's requirements. Please note in the photos we have only improvised a mattress in red upholstery with yellow bolster pillow to illustrate how the bed will look when dressed. We can have a mattress and pillow fabricated for you in your own choice of materials and colors. From 2nd September to 5th October,2013 Le Bon Marche´, Rive Gauche. Paris held a design exhibition on the work of Jacques Hitier.
