About the Item

Iconic Dutch design, the Cleopatra bed by Dick Cordemeijer for Auping, Holland, 1954. This bed was launched in 1954 by Auping, because of this design in the first year the sales increased by 22.4% for Auping. The production was between 1954 and 1982, but from 1960 the sales of this bed were on their return. The total production of these beds is 850.000 pieces in several color combinations and sizes. The popular bed was simple modernistic, as was a very popular style in the days with Tomado, Pastoe, Anvia etc creating the same kind of styles. It was functional, not too expensive and built to resist. Even after 50 years these beds are sturdy and don't screech. The frame was made of black (newly) coated metal and the ends are in solid teakwood, a very nice contrast. This mattress is upholstered with a nice quality fabric by Keymer, this is the Irion fabric and this looks great in contrast with the metal frame and teak ends. We have these mattresses available in light grey, dark blue or light blue. Other fabrics on request. This is a totally refurbished bed so not a scratched one like the other listed examples on 1stDibs. Like all of our upholstered pieces this can also be newly upholstered to your wishes.
