Vintage Nelson Daybed in Black Mohair, c. 1950s

About the Item

Sophisticated yet effortless, this vintage MCM sofa bed is the iconic Nelson Daybed, originally designed by George Nelson in 1949 for the Herman Miller Collection. One of the most influential designers of the 20th century, George Nelson (1908 - 1986) was an American architect and furniture designer for Herman Miller who pioneered a philosophy of design for modern living. This fantastic vintage example from the mid-20th century speaks to the timeless appeal of mid-century modern furniture. Its minimal form is lightweight and open, allowing the daybed to move from room to room. The sofa bed sits on a platform frame of solid walnut and chromed steel, crafted with beveled edges, tapered legs and original steel springs. The cushions have been reupholstered in a gorgeous black mohair velvet, finished with rounded piping as per the original design.
