Dining Chairs Model 203 by Arne Vodder for France & Son Denmark

About the Item

Designed by Arne Vodder, this rare and sophisticated set of model 203 dining chairs are made of teak. The elegantly curved seats and the hinged brass back support that moves as you lean back offers optimal seating comfort. For additional comfort, two of the four chairs have sculpted armrests. Arne Vodder trained as a cabinetmaker and architect. He studied under Finn Juhl at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Vodder is best known for his furniture designs, which tended to be simple pieces composed of natural materials such as rosewood and teak, often inspired by the natural forms, and occasionally accented with colorful panels. His work was well received throughout his lifetime. Between the 1950s and ’70s, Vodder’s furniture designs were used by President Jimmy Carter in the White House and President Anwar Sadat in Cairo.

  • Borge Mogensen Spanish Dining Chair in Smoked Oak
    By Fredericia
    Located in Sag Harbor, NY
In 1958, Børge Mogensen and his family travelled to Spain. In Andalucia he fell in love with an old chair with a wide seat and broad armrests. Once back in Denmark, he created The Spanish Chair. The chair he fell in love with is a traditional type of chair and is very common in areas influenced by ancient Islamic culture – from Spain to northern India. Børge Mogensen modernised the design by removing the elaborate carvings, and thus he created his own version with his customary geometrical precision. Yet he retained the most important feature: the broad armrests that give the chair its distinctive character. The broad armrests also serve as a practical place to place a cup or a glass. By designing The Spanish Chair Mogensen...
