Egon Eiermann Set of Two Steel Dining Chairs

About the Item

Egon Eiermann for Wilde & Spieth, two chairs model 'SE-68', molded wood, red fabric, steel, Germany, 1951. A tubular steel frame in conjunction with two organic shaped shells that function both as seat and backrest and are made of molded wood and red fabric. The use of molded wood for the SE 68 was the first time that this technique was used. The chairs are perfectly balanced and provides very high comfort for the human body, something that is rare for unobstructed, simplistic chairs like these. Egon Eiermann (1904-1970) was one of the most prominent architects of post-war modernism in Germany. In the beginning of his career, he started an architecture studio with Fritz Jaenecke. One of his most famous works is the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche at the Breitscheidplatz in Berlin. As he was famous for his simple, minimalistic architecture with precise details and structural clarity, Eiermann is also known for his furniture design, such as the iconic SE68 chair. His furniture, mainly exclusively designed for his architectural projects, were later produced in larger quantities by Friedrich Herr and Wilde and Spieth. Please note that the item is in good, used condition. Reupholstery is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
