Motomi Kawakami 'Seoto KD20' semi-arm upholstered walnut dining chair for Hida.
For centuries, famed Hida artisans in Gifu prefecture have played a role in Japan's woodworking culture, crafting iconic bentwood furniture from sustainable local forests. Established in 1920, Hida Sangyo builds upon the Japanese heritage of craftsmanship and sustainability from their headquarters in Gifu, which remains one of Japan's leading furniture production areas. In addition to offering iconic designs from midcentury masters like Sori Yanagi and Enzo Mari, Hida produces contemporary creations from international designers such as Atsuhiko Misawa and atelier oï.
First introduced in 2011 by designer Motomi Kawakami, the Seoto series soon began collecting international recognition and design awards. Defined by its distinctive integrated backrest, arms and back legs, the chair is as comfortable as it is stylish. The arms are carved from solid wood and designed with a generous spread to promote a smooth entry and exit. Coupled with the carved seat, the Seoto collection is pleasantly comfortable while providing a beautiful silhouette. Please note that the wood's grain, color and features vary from item to item due to the organic nature of the material.
