Original Hans Coray Landi Chairs, MEWA

About the Item

Desirable early Landi aluminium stacking chairs, designed by Hans Coray for the Swiss National Exhibition in Zurich in 1938, executed in the 1950s by P. & W. Blattmann Metallwarenfabrik Wädenswil (MEWA), Switzerland. These examples have 91 holes in total which dates their manufacturing pre-1960. Unlike most early Landi chairs on the market the original rubber feet are still present on these chairs. Marked MEWA in the back as pictured. Priced individually, 4 available. Hans Coray, a Swiss designer born in 1906, left an indelible mark on the world of furniture design. Renowned for his iconic creation, the Landi Chair, crafted for the 1939 Swiss National Exhibition, Coray epitomized modernist aesthetics. The chair, an exemplar of innovative use of materials, employed a curved aluminum frame, showcasing a harmonious blend of form and function. Coray's avant-garde approach extended to various disciplines, including architecture and urban planning. His designs, characterized by simplicity and functionality, resonate with timeless appeal, influencing subsequent generations of designers.
