About the Item
Set of 4 vintage "razor blade" dining chairs in solid patinated quarter sawn Scandinavian oak upholstered in long haired organic sheepskin from Gotland. A very impressive set in good condition. This model was designed in the 1960s by Danish designer Henry Kjærnulff. The razorblade chairs are the designer’s most distinctive design.
It is easy to see where the nickname of these chairs stem from. The slightly curved backrests are razorblade-shaped, an unparalleled design feature. The chairs are visually stimulating, featuring both angular and rounded shapes. The style and shape of the legs and frame recall an almost Baroque design, which is paired with Scandinavian modernism, an uncommon yet impressive combination.
Danish midcentury designer and architect, Henry Kjærnulf is somewhat of a mystery. A lot more is known about his designs than Kjærnulf himself. His wooden designs, crafted to perfection, speak for themselves.
