About the Item

SINCE POSTING THIS LISTING WE HAVE ACQUIRED AN ADDITIONAL SET OF EIGHT CHAIRS FOR A TOTAL OF 16. The second set is in a darker finish but all can be refinished to match or simply use as a contrasting set. Sculptural dining chairs with strong lines and tapers designed and made by hand is the workshop of Adolfo Genovese for F & G Hand Made Furniture Co. Cambridge, MA. These chairs are are exceptionally sturdy and robust, and weigh ~50 pounds each. Constructed from two types of wood a light walnut and ash and have a high gloss clear finish. Front legs are finished with elegant tapering brushed brass sabots. Upholstered in Colefax & Fowler 3051 green. The chairs are evocative of the designs of Gio Ponti, Melchiorre Bega and Erno Fabry. The shape of the back legs casts a nod to J. Stuart Clingman. Eight chairs total. Six side chairs and two armchairs. Price shown is for the set of eight. F&G, which was owned by brothers Adolfo and Edward Genovese, operated from the late 1940's through the mid-1970's and created exceptionally well built "old-school" bespoke furniture in many styles, never yielding their high standards for the sake of cost or expediency. They were among the elite of Boston's custom furniture makers. These chairs have been in the same home since first made circa 1953.
