Set of Four Cor Alons Teak and Burgundy Skai Side or Dining Chairs

About the Item

Set of four side chairs designed by Cor Alons for Gouda den Boer, constructed with bent plywood frames finished in a two-tone treatment: lighter natural wood on the splayed legs contrasting with a darker teak-toned plywood on the seat shell and backrest support. Seat and backrest pads are upholstered in original burgundy skai, a period-typical vinyl material used widely in Dutch postwar furniture production. The backrest tilts slightly rearward from the seat shell, providing ergonomic support within a minimal, sculptural form. Cor Alons was among the leading Dutch designers of the postwar period, working extensively with bent plywood construction during the 1950s. Gouda den Boer, a prominent Dutch furniture manufacturer and retailer, produced his designs for the domestic market. Alons brought a modernist sensibility to affordable, production-friendly forms, and his bent plywood chairs represent some of the most refined Dutch Mid-Century output. The frames have been lightly refinished and the seating was left in its original condition with some visible wear consistent with its age and use - including some punctures and scratching to the upholstery.
