Wonderful and extremely rare original 1970s 'bambole' living room set comprising a pair of the rare 'bambole' lounge chairs with a single matching ottoman as well as the highly sought after large 3 seat sofa (tribambola) , the 2 seat sofa is far more common. A truly iconic and hard to find complete set comprising the rarest of the 'bambole' series elements in matching leather complete with original 1970s manufacturer's stamps to the underside. Please note the dimension listed in the main description is just for the three-seat sofa, please see complete list of dimensions for each element below :- Three-Seat Sofa : 96 " long X 35.43 " deep X 27.36 " high X 16.93" seating height 244 cm long x 90 cm deep x 69.5 high x 43 cm seating height Lounge Chairs: 47.64 " wide X 35.43" deep X 27.36" high X 16.93" seating height 121 cm wide x 90 cm deep x 69.5 cm high x seating height 43 cm Ottoman: 33.46 " wide X 33.46 " deep X 17.72 " seating height 85 cm wide x 85 cm deep x 45 cm seating height The 'Bambole' is a timeless design . What makes them special is the apparent absence of a load bearing structure, the extreme naturalness of their shape, and the combination of comfort, softness and elasticity that their appearance conveys . B&B Italia opted to launch Le Bambole in an approach connected with the icon of the moment, jeans. With the precious contribution of a young Oliviero Toscani and the model Donna Jordan, the product launch was achieved with a very creative, distinctive campaign that was also a little provocative, once again breaking the sector's communication codes. The advertisement showed a topless Donna Jordan, photographed by Oliviero Toscani, as she invited the viewer to look at the product. The advert was censured immediately, and a simultaneous flow of communication began which had a very positive effect on the product's sales and the 'bambole' quickly became a design icon winning the 'compasso d'oro' gold medal award or design in 1979. Bellini's starting point for the design was a shopping bag that contained formless material that was shaped when the bag was set on the ground and squashed. In the shared research undertaken by the designer and the company's internal R&D department, the 'Centro Ricerche & Sviluppo', the idea moved towards the shape of a cushion. This is how Le Bambole came into being between 1970 and 1972. The series turned out to be an icon for the 1970s and won the "Compasso d'Oro" award in 1979. The search for a new shape for upholstered furniture: all of the parts are shaped like a large soft cushion. If we take apart Le Bambole, we get cushions in part, because they are a natural "free" shape, difficult to describe in a product drawing, but easy to perceive and analyse. Inside them is the "skeleton", or rather the vertical edges or elastic membranes that blend form and fabric to determine a balance between action and reaction. Le Bambole , said Bellini, “are not covered in fabric, instead they are built of fabric.” Literature : Mario Bellini: Designer, McCarty, ppg. 58-59 illustrates series Repertorio 1950-1980, Gramigna, pg. 359 illustrates series ; PLEASE SEE IMAGE 3 'Il design del mobile italiano dal 1946 a oggi', page 117 ,Arty Pansera editori Laterza, 1990.
