2021 David Adjaye for Knoll Washington Prism Lounge Chair and Ottoman in Black

About the Item

We present this rare and unusual Washington Prism lounge chair and ottoman, designed by Sir David Adjaye and produced by Knoll. First off, it should be noted that the set is free of any substantial wear, though because its highly reflective, it reflects from the white backdrop around it (aka, the scratches are on the floor, not the furniture). The set was acquired directly from a Knoll employee. The pieces have never been used in a home or office setting. The set is in superb condition and may only show light wear from transporting the set to our warehouse. They were specified with black gloss shells and a gray COM fabric (customer owned material). The set is truly amazing to see in person and the weight of them is considerable. Each piece has gorgeously precise detailing and a subtle swivel function on the chair. The chair measures 33.25 inches wide by 31.5 inches deep and 31.5 inches tall with seat height of 16.25 inches. The ottoman measures 26.75 inches wide by 17 inches deep and 16.75 inches tall. The price listed includes both the lounge chair and ottoman. A marble side table is available separately.

Florence Knoll for Knoll International, lounge chair, model '51', teak, fabric, United States, 1955 This slipper chair model 51 is designed by Florence Knoll. The teak frame of the chair is sleek in form. The angled seat is placed upon the squared-off frame. Maximum seating comfort is ensured by the wide seat and tilted backrest. Florence Knoll (1917-) was trained as an architect and had a sense of style from a very young age. In 1936 she met Alvar Aalto and was trained by Marcel Breuer, Walter Gropius and Mies van der Rohe. This meant that although she was barely out of her teens, she was educated by the best of the European modernists. When she arrived in New York Knoll worked on interior projects (being the only female) which is how she came to know Hans Knoll. When Florence joined Knoll, the planning unit started. Florence also made sure that the designs where more 'American Modernist' instead of Scandinavian, When Hans Knoll died she...
