Art Deco "D" Oak Armchair By Modernage Furniture After Paul Frankl
About the Item
This Art Deco oak armchair was manufactured by the Modernage Furniture Company circa the 1930s. The design was highly influenced by the designer and architect Paul Frankl's D Lounge Chair designed circa 1925. This lounge chair features streamlined arms that flow seamlessly into the chair legs creating a stylized letter D shape. The backrest is very geometric, typical of the Art Deco period, with a rectangular back and a slat down the center for added support. The oak frame is refinished and the seat and back cushions are newly upholstered in a cream cotton blend. With its neutral palette and clean lines this Art Deco armchair can blend perfectly with any style of interior.
Modernage Furniture Company was an Art Deco retailer in New York City from the 30s to 50s. It was also where the famous American designer Paul McCobb worked briefly as a decorating consultant.
