Artifort F545 Big Tulip Chair by Pierre Paulin in Original Kvadrat Upholstery

About the Item

Born in Paris in 1927, Pierre Paulin a created his best known pieces in cooperation with the Dutch manufacturer Artifort. The Tongue Chair, the Ribbon Chair, the Groovy — to name but a few — all feature in museums such as the MOMA New York and Centre Pompidou Paris. Originally designed in the 1960s, his famous F545 Big Tulip Chair oozes Spage Age and Flower Power: ‘it spreads its half-open petals around the sitter, inviting and warming at the same time’, as described in the manufacturer’s catalogue. Being out of production for a long time, the Tulip was reintroduced in the Artifort collection in 2003. The listed Tulip armchair is manufactured in 2010 and is in wonderful condition, it has a metal-strip cross base (non-swivable) and the original red Kvadrat upholstery, still pristine and fresh. It retains its metal Artifort badge. General note: Shipping quotes as supplied by 1stdibs are only indicative.
