About the Item

Pair of armchairs, in iron and fabric by Carlo Hauner for Móveis Artesenal, Brazil, 1950. Elegant and modern lounge chairs by Brazilian designer Carlo Hauner. The frame is made from black coated iron. Due the diagonal connection and lines and the thin iron of the frame, these lounge chairs get a delicate appearance. Besides the lines form a beautiful graphical pattern. Interesting addition are the small brass caps on the chairs legs. The seating of the chairs is upholstered in an off white-grey fabric. The armrest runs smoothly over into the seating. The fabric buttons make a tufted seating and give these chairs even more character. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996) studied in Europe at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. Once arrived in Brazil, after 1948, he dedicated himself to textile, ceramics, furniture and architecture. He paired up with his brother Ernesto Hauner, Carlo being the creative of the pair. In 1951, the Hauner brothers bought Lina Bo Bardi and Pietro Bardi's Pau-Brazil factory, which would be renamed after Móveis Artesenal. Later on, he would associate with new partners Martin Eisler and Ernesto Wolf, with whom he would later create the company Forma. Hauner himself left a small legacy of mainly upholstered furniture.
