Danish Cabinetmaker Pair of Easy Chairs with Wooden Legs, Denmark, ca 1950s

About the Item

This pair of Danish-made easy chairs is characterized by the best qualities of Danish mid-century design. From the restrained aesthetic to the elegant pairing of materials, these chairs are the perfect example of how pairing Danish design, the work of a cabinetmaker, and luxurious upholstery create exceptional pieces. These chairs feature beautifully patinated wooden legs that create an earthly look. The rounded shape of the flowing arm- and backrests is a signature characteristic of Danish Modernism. The backs are lightly bent, and the back legs are slightly splayed to assure stability and add to the “welcoming” look playfully. The Danish design idiom was centered on warm woods, quality fabrics and gentle yet robust support for the spine - qualities that engender contentment and well-being, a defining characteristic of Danish culture. These chairs are delightful examples of the understated but warm interior aesthetic. Elevating this aesthetic even further is one-of-a-kind upholstery. This pair has been reupholstered in a premium fabric with a unique and stylish pattern and soft touch. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. • Mongolian Shearling Easy Chair with Tapered Wood Legs, Europe ca 1950s
    Located in Utrecht, NL
This stunning chair revolves around high-quality materials, comfort, and the mastery of the era’s European cabinetmakers. The design is focused on the aesthetics of modernism whilst employing the exquisite qualities of its upholstery. In many ways this chair transcends the word ‘modern’ thanks to its unique look. The flamboyant look is the result of the brilliant pairing of materials. The solid wood structure’s smooth lines stand out even under the highly textural shearling while also accentuating the individuality of the upholstery. The soft fibres of the lightweight, curly Mongolian shearling drape beautifully over the structure, while the warm greyish colour adds a lot of depth. As opposed to traditional shearling, Mongolian lamb/shearling (also known as shag) is a long, flouncy fur celebrated for its softness and luxurious volume. The desire to keep functionality and comfort at the core of the design is visible, especially in the gently curved and reclined back and the tapered legs. The solid wood legs’ dark colour and smoothness stands out beautifully against the lighter body, creating a balanced look. Thanks to its visual qualities, mainly the shearling’s lush texture and colour, this infinitely cosy chair...
