Giancarlo Piretti Iconic Alki Lounge Chair in Original Blue Upholstery Castelli

About the Item

Giancarlo Piretti Alky chairs in original blue upholstery, Italy, 1969 Giancarlo Piretti designed these Alky chairs for Castelli in 1969. Sculptural, fantastic modern design in the original blue fabric in very good vintage condition. Representative of the Italian 1970's glamorous design period. Castelli produced it in Italy. The soft elements of the chair are made of foam rubber and it has an aluminum frame. The item is in excellent condition. The "Alky" is known to be a multifunctional chair, which perfectly combines comfort, design and modularity. The design of Alky allows for individual use, but it is also possible to combine similar chairs. Born in Bologna in 1940, Giancarlo Piretti studied at the Instituo Statale d'Arte and later worked as an interior designer creating interior furniture and office furniture. He stayed with Castelli for 12 years and while he worked on various projects, his innovations were particularly visible in seating. He has received awards such as the UBD, the ASID, the Compasso s'Oro and the G-Mark.

    Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
The Djinn lounge chairs, designed by Olivier Mourgue (born 1939) for Airborne in 1963, are one of those very few quintessential and emblematic early space age designs which - much like the character from the 2001 a Space Odissey movie where they were notoriously featured - evaded space and time to, at first glance, catch the eye and the heart of the beholder, no matter the context nor the timeframe. Rightfully considered as the climax of the 1960s french seat...

  • Poul Kjærholm Iconic PK 22 Chair reupholstered in Cowhide, E. Kold Christensen 2
By Poul Kjærholm, E. Kold Christensen
    Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) the praised Danish designer, the "furniture architect", designed the emblematic PK22 Chair in 1956. Standing out from the other Danish mid century designers, his predilection material wasn't wood but steel. This PK22 gets its outstanding comfort from the cowhide which is floating above the metal structure, thanks to the curved crossbars that holds the feet together without interfering with the seat's ergonomy. The obviously powerful and effective design speaks for itself, fitting perfectly a more intimate space needing structure and discretion thanks to the thin and light side view, as well as larger rooms thanks to the wide seat and backrest creating subtle geometric shapes. The chair has been reupholstered in an elegant black and white cowhide, whose unique pattern interacts gracefully with the design. The frame bears...
