Hans Eichenberger for Girsberger "1600" Lounge Chairs in Oatmeal Wool + Chrome

About the Item

Founded in 1889, Girsberger is synonymous with top quality furniture and service in Switzerland, where these lounge chairs were produced in the late 1960s. Designed by Hans Eichenberger in a Bauhaus style, they have undergone a complete restoration and have been re-envisioned in softly woven, buttery oatmeal wool textile, with all new straps and new foam. We love the weight and stability of the chromed frames, which are set off by the softness of the new upholstery. The original stitching pattern was mimicked, to reference the original cushion design. The oatmeal colored wool feels fresh and modern and a touch less "corporate" than the original leather did. We love the notion that these could just as easily float in a home with other Modernist pieces, or blend easily with a breezy Coastal home with lighter and fresher colors. Black leather and chrome has been exchanged for a more welcoming look and feel, while maintaining the original design "edge" and angularity.
