About the Item
An original “Tempo” lounge chair designed by Joseph-André Motte for Sièges Steiner in France, circa 1950. The model is defined by its low, compact profile, gently curved upholstered body, and slender polished-metal legs. Its carefully judged proportions give the chair a light appearance while retaining the comfort and enveloping form characteristic of Motte’s postwar seating.
This example has been fully restored and newly upholstered in a silver-grey velvet selected to complement the clarity of the original design. The internal structure and padding were carefully renewed where required, while the metal base was refinished to restore its clean, reflective surface.
Joseph-André Motte was an important figure in postwar French design, known for combining functional comfort with precise, understated forms. The “Tempo” chair reflects this approach particularly well, offering a compact and highly usable piece of 1950s French seating.
