Lounge Chair in Carbon Dyed Ash and Black Sheepskin by Hinterland Design
About the Item
Hinterland's first lounge chair offering, the Shepherd's Chair is the culmination of years of design and prototyping. Inspired by the close relationship between a traditional herders tools, animals and the land. The curve of the staff. The softness of the sheepskin. And the wood of the forest. This version is made of solid bent Canadian white ash which has been carbon dyed and upholstered with a black dyed sheepskin sling seat and backrest. The three perfect arcs of the rounded wood frame hold the leather in place and create an elegant chair to recline in.
Wood is hand oiled and waxed with natural low-VOC satin oil and beeswax polish.
Other options are a natural sheepskin with a whitewashed Canadian white ash frame and a tanned leather version with an American black walnut frame. For other finish options, see Hinterland Design's other 1stDibs listings.
Chair is 30" W x 32" D x 30" H and seat height is 17" H.

Hinterland Design
Hinterland Design is a studio that creates unique work for people to use, enjoy and cherish. Each piece is hand made, to order, designed and produced in our Vancouver, Canada studio. We are artists, woodworkers and craftspeople who build using natural materials. Drawing on twenty years’ experience, we believe in and stand behind our techniques, designs and finished products. To us, materials are at the heart of what we make. They provide the initial inspiration for the design, and also provide the user with an innate and ongoing connection to the natural world. We care about where we source, prizing local and healthy materials. And we care about how we treat those materials through the building process. Our environment shapes the work we do. Everything we make has a story. It starts with the materials, is shaped by the design and build, then develops through the many hands that use it throughout its lifetime. Designing and making unique objects that we are proud of, that are good for the earth and good for the people that use them is at the core of our practice.
