Tito Agnoli lounge chairs for Mobilia Italy 1961

About the Item

Rare lounge chairs designed by Tito Agnoli and manufactured by Mobilia in Itay in 1961. These chairs were made in very limited quantities, makes them rare and pretty unique. Their structure is made from rosewood and the chairs are reupholstered with a white bouclé. The armrests flow fluidly like waves making it have a soft and inviting appearance. There’s a beautiful contrast between the materials used. The chairs upholstery on the seat and back very nicely shaped and in the same curves as their arms. The most eye-catching element of these chairs are their legs. They run the entire height of the front and back. It's a clever play on point of view by Agnoli. Additionally the legs have a subtle double edge detail at the bottom and a slight bend at the back. The sofa is not included in this listing but can be purchased here. Kindly note that the listed price is for the pair of chairs. Literature; G. Gramigna, Repertorio del design italiano 1950-1980, p. , Mondadori, 1985. Tito Agnoli was born into an Italian family, in Lima, Peru, in 1931. He came to Italy after the war. Trained as a painter (having studied with Sironi), in 1949 he enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture, where he graduated in 1959 and was assistant to Gio Ponti and to Carlo De Darli. However, even in the early Fifties, he was already carrying out an intense professional activity in the field of design. He has created projects for, among others, Arflex, Cinova, Lema, Matteo Grassi, Molteni, Montina, Oluce, Pierantonio Bonacina, Poltrona Frau, Schiffini, Ycami. Several times recommended for the Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) Award, in 1986 he won the gold medal at the Neocon in Chicago. Some of his pieces are kept in the permanent collection of the MoMa in New York. He died in Milan on February 2012. Like all our upholstered pieces these can also be newly upholstered to your admiration. Ask our experienced upholstery department for an affordable quote for the item you want customized. We only use the best quality fabrics, foam, and materials for all our items.
