About the Item

HC Studio are delighted to offer this rocking chair, designed by Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara. Working in collaboration with Artek, limited number runs were produced throughout the 1960s. Initially similar in appearance to the "Bohemian" rocking chair by Lena Larsson, Tapiovaara's design became an iconic piece, renowned for capturing the aesthetic functionality of the Post-war Finnish design movement. The chair is wonderfully balanced and the quality of construction offered by Artek mean that though rare, these pieces have an enduring quality. In lovely vintage condition, this is a superb and utterly practical chair: A supportive seat, sculpted armrests that are wide and comfortable, and a footrest cross member make this a stunning addition to any room. The natural vintage wood finish offers great versatility for any decor; furnish with a designer cushion or a contrast textile throw or sheepskin. Equally, the chair has beautiful, sculptural lines that are central to the ever popular Mid-Century Modern look, an iconic design in its own right. The natural finish emphasises those great lines, while the beautiful, bent plywood elm seat provides comfort for hours.
