About the Item

Rare modular seating group with foot stool and a coffee table by Horst Brüning for Kill International, Germany, 1970s. Six elements and a foot stool in cognac brown leather with a steel frame. Very good condition. Measurements: Single seat: T 85 cm, H 72 cm, B 71 cm, SH 40 cm. Stool: B 71 cm, D 57 cm, H 40 cm. Table. W 80 cm, W 81 cm, H 27.5 cm. The Hamburg interior architect and industrial designer developed his own furniture design in collaboration with the still young Danish designer duo Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius. His designs take minimalist functionality with long durability into account. This was in keeping with the spirit of the 1960s, which demanded clarity, minimalism and longevity from designer furniture. The emphasis was on seating quality that would correspond to the special form of the seating furniture. His best-known designs include a bar trolley from 1968, a sofa bed (6915) and the later award-winning sofa 6910 from 1967. Horst Brüning, who was born in Hamburg in 1934, studied interior design/architecture at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts until 1956. He continued his studies in industrial design in Copenhagen and Stockholm, the strongholds of furniture design at the time. During this time he also established friendly professional relationships with the Danes Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius, with whom he remained in a lively exchange of ideas. In 1963 Brüning founded his own design and architecture office in Stuttgart. Many of Brüning's designs went into the well-known furniture production of Kill in Fellbach/Stuttgart.
