18th century North Italian Baroque Style Green-Painted and Parcel-Gilt Settee
About the Item
A North Italian green-painted and parcel-gilt settee from the mid-18th century. The serpentine padded backrest displays foliate scrolls on the top rail flanked by two scrolls above a serpentine padded seat. Down-scrolled padded armrests flank the equally serpentine seat rail surmounting four cabriole legs, opulently carved with acanthus leaves. The delicate light beige upholstery complements the green-painted and parcel-gilt structure of this settee, whose shape and carved decoration illustrate the highly ornamental Baroque style. This versatile North Italian green-painted settee from the mid-18th Century, with its elegant curved lines and carved parcel-gilt ornamentation, would be a great accent piece in any room.
