Yves Marthelot Conversation Seat/Tête-à-tête

French Victorian style tubular upholstered conversation seat/tete-a-tete (by Yves Marthelot, circa 1980s) Yves Marthelot is a French artist and designer born in 1949. He created, in a relatively short period of time, an influential series of magnificent and unique pieces of often upholstered "art" furniture. He experimented boldly with unconventional materials. His works were exhibited in 1989 at the National Academy of Design in New York, and the Brooklyn Museum holds three pieces in their permanent collection. Marthelot acknowledges many influences that contributed to his unique style, but above all a love of theatre and "carnival" in all senses, as well as historical styles, from the Baroque to the unrestrained luxury of the French Napoleon III period.
