About the Item

Superb examples of the Karl Johan Revival style, which is the Swedish equivalent of the European Biedermeier style, but with strong influences from the French Empire style. The period is named after King Carl XIV Johan (reigned 1818-1844) and the furniture typically dates from the early to mid-19th century (c. 1810s-1840s). Crafted of crotch mahogany veneer and mahogany hardwood with ebonized details, this pair has been newly restored with new materials and reupholstered in black velvet with black tape and black nail head trim. A glorious pair of chairs.
