Pair of Austrian Art Nouveau Upholstered Bentwood Side Chairs

About the Item

A lovely pair of Art Nouveau/ Secessionist cushioned side chairs; the backs featuring butterfly padded rests. The Art Nouveau movement blossomed in Vienna, Austria at the turn of the 20th century. It was a break from traditional styles with organic and asymmetrical designs taken from youth, nature and foreign cultures. This pair of chairs can be used as additional seating, office chairs, slipper chairs, pull up chairs, or as decorative chairs in a foyer or dining room. They are highly versatile in style and can complement any period furnishing, ie: Jugendstil, Art Crafts, Belle Époque, Art Nouveau, Rustic, traditional, Transitional English cottage, Loft, country home, farm house..... The set's upholstery was from Backhausen, the famous, high end textile house that has been in business since 1849 and made fabric for the original Wiener Werkstätte designers during the period.
