"Solomon" Chair Sculpture by Danny Lane in Stacked Glass, 1988

About

Elegant and avant-garde "Solomon" chair sculpture designed in 1987 and made in 1988 by artist/sculptor Danny Lane that comprises back and front legs in stacked pieces of thick, chiseled float glass that are supported and held upright by vertical steel rods, and that are placed such that the pieces gradate from frosted to clear starting from the bottom portion upward. The chair has two pieces of thick, chiseled and free-form opalescent glass as the seat, each is fastened into the chair's structure via the steel frame. Each stacked, float glass piece circumvolves the rods which allows for optional play of the silhouette's curvature. Please see the last image for visual reference of this. Danny Lane originally made three of these chairs: 2 in 1988 and 1 in 1997. This particular piece was purchased directly from the artist by the sole, previous owner and was featured in their New York modern design show in the late 1980s.
