Edward Wormley was an American modernist furniture designer who was known for his high-quality and elegant pieces. He had an exceptional talent for blending the best characteristics of past design eras with 20th century modern innovation. During the Great Depression, Dunbar Furniture Company recruited Wormley to be their Director of Design, and Wormley’s leadership brought success to the company. Each of Wormley’s well-made creations embraces modernist trends while retaining a strong historical foundation, resulting in an understated and truly stylish addition to any room.
Offered is the Edward Wormley for Dunbar iconic tufted sofa model #5407, purchased at auction from the estate of Walter Hamilton White, a Dunbar Furniture executive that worked in the New York City showroom for Dunbar in the 1960s and was an avid Dunbar Furniture collector. This particular sofa from Edward Wormley is quite rare and remained in the poccession of this collector for at least 50 years. The button tufting alone makes this sofa brilliant! This very comfortable and gracious sofa is in its original upholstery, a gorgeous coral orange that is on trend for color in decor. This piece is a true collector piece!
Good. Very good to excellent vintage condition. The original upholstery is a current fashionable shade of orange velvet and with a proper cleaning might not need to be replaced. The structure of the sofa is in great condition..
