  • Rare Emiel Veranneman 'Osaka' Sofa in Dark Brown Leather and Stained Oak
By De Coene Frères, Emiel Veranneman
    Located in Waalwijk, NL
Emiel Veranneman for De Coene, 'Osaka' sofa, stained oak, leather, Belgium 1968. The Belgian designer Emiel Veranneman is a specialist in balancing decorative and structural components in furniture, and this sofa is a prime example of that. In 1970, the 'Osaka' sofa was presented in the Belgian pavilion at the World Exhibition in Osaka, Japan. The overall appearance of the sofa is organic and roundish, yet the strict and linear base creates a counterbalanced appearance. The oval-shaped backrest is supported by a wooden frame that diverges on both sides, transitioning into the rear legs. The pronounced geometry of the sofa contributes to the unit's unique sculptural silhouette. The sofa is upholstered in a dark brown leather that beautifully complements the dark tone of the oak. The artistry and novelty of this particular item ensure that it can be placed as a visual statement in one's interior. Emiel Veranneman (1924-2003) had a very important role in the art scene of Belgium. After the Second World War, he began his career in designing furniture. Because of his vision and creativity, his work is often indistinguishable from art. However, throughout his career, he designed pieces without compromising their functionality. De Coene was founded in 1887 in Kortrijk (Belgium) by Jozef de Coene, who was at that time 13 years old. In 1895, his younger brother Adolphe joined the company. In their early years, De Coene was inspired by Henry van de Velde, Art Deco and the Arts & Crafts movement. The company made many custom made furnishings which leads to an expansive growth. After World War One, the brother visited the United States where they became acquainted with laminated wood production, and purchased a wood-stripping machine. They were the first company that made triplex in Belgium which led to the ability to mass produce. In 1954, they received the right to produce Knoll furniture. But although the company produced on a large-scale, they were still world famous for their meticulously detailed, high-quality and Art Deco inspired...

  • Rare Sofa prototype by Marzio Cecchi Model Serpente with certificate
    By Marzio Cecchi
    Located in Milano, IT
Marzio Cecchi was an Italian designer of great talent and innovation who left an indelible mark on the world of design. He was an assiduous participant in the artistic and cultural movements of his time, and unfortunately died prematurely in a tragic car accident in New York. Prominent among his most iconic and futuristic achievements is the Serpente sofa prototype with certificate, a work of art consisting of several modules held together by a tube and totally swiveling. This sofa is extremely rare and has reached high quotations in the world's most important auction houses. We are dealing with a piece of exceptional importance, as it is a prototype that never entered the market and always belonged to the designer's family. The sofa is certified and documented and has a certain provenance. Moreover, it is in perfect original condition, never restored and carefully preserved in its original condition. A unique and extraordinary piece of historic Italian design of the 1900s, with great historical importance and with room for growth even at the investment level. The sofa is made of leather and consists of 6 modules for a total of 6 seats. It is a work of art of Italian...
