Chaise Longue Model 242 by Mies van der Rohe for Knoll International, 1980's
Located in Oud Beijerland, NL
The adjustable Model 242 MR Chaise Lounge was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1927. This particular example was produced in 1980 by Knoll International in the USA. The chaise features a high quality white leather channel-upholstered cushion that rests atop a tubular steel frame. The cushion is attached to the frame with leather strips which wrap around the belting support straps and are secured with snap buttons. The seamless stainless steel tubular frame is bright and has no damage. The white leather has developed a nice patina. Overall, this chaise is in good condition with light wear. Please see photos. This Chaise Longue was designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1927 as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany. The MR Collection represents some of his earliest steel furniture designs. Made of tubular chromed steel and leather, this iconic piece was edited by Knoll International in the 70s. As a company that produced many of the most famous and iconic furniture designs of the 20th century, Knoll was a chief influence in the rise of modern design in the United States. Their work would help change the face of the American home and office. The Bauhaus Master Marcel Breuer influenced Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's use of tubular steel. This was apparent in his design of the MR Adjustable...

4 Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Mr10 Dining Chairs 1960s Knoll International
Located in London, GB
Complete set of four chrome cantilever MR10 chairs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, in brown leather. This set of chairs is an early 1960s example of his famous design produced by Knoll International. The MR10 chair was first designed in the 1920s, and this set of four features the chrome springs on the backs and seats. Later the design was improved, with a shortening of the springs and a reversion to an elastic corset cord. The chairs still bear the oval sticker marks on the back of the bottom of the seats. MR10 chairs are really comfortable, and are a real design Classic, as seen in many films and other media. Our MR10 chairs recently have been used to decorate the interior of a restaurant in London, which was featured in Architectural Digest, Dezeen, Elle Decoration, and many other publications (as shown in the images, which are property of Child Studio...

Rare Three-Seat Jens Risom Sofa for Knoll International, USA, 1950
Located in Amsterdam, NL
A very rare and eye-catching sofa designed by Jens Risom in his iconic style, manufactured by Knoll International in the United States, circa 1950. This impressive piece is made of the highest quality walnut wood with a cognac coloured strap leather upholstery. It has an elegant curved shape that provides additional comfort when seated. The seats by Risom are iconic pieces of design, and finding a sofa version is a unique opportunity to add a wonderful piece of vintage design to the interior! In very good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Jens Risom was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 8 May 1916. His father was a prominent architect, Sven Risom, a member of the school of Nordic Classicism. Jens Risom was trained as a designer at the Copenhagen School of Industrial Arts and Design (Kunstha°ndværkerskolen), where he studied under Ole Wanscher and Kaare Klint. He was classmates with Hans Wegner and Børge Mogensen. Risom then spent two years at Niels Brock Copenhagen Business College, before beginning work as a furniture developer and interior designer with the architectural firm of Ernst Kuhn. He later relocated to Stockholm, taking a job with a small architectural firm. From there he joined the design department of Nordiska Kompaniet and gained such a reputation that he was introduced to Alvar Aalto and Bruno Mathsson. In 1939, Risom traveled to New York City to study American design. He found it difficult to find work as a furniture designer in New York, however, and was forced to accept a number of textile designs that ultimately secured him freelance work with designer Dan Cooper. This led to his work being included in the Collier's "House of Ideas" designed by Edward Durell Stone and constructed in front of Rockefeller Center during the 1939 New York World's Fair. In 1941, Risom teamed with entrepreneur Hans Knoll and in 1942, they launched the Hans Knoll Furniture Company with 15 of the 20 pieces in the inaugural "600" line designed by Risom. These works included stools, armchairs and lounges, made from cedar and surplus webbing, works which have since become design classics. With the advent of World War II, Risom was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and served under General George S. Patton. After completing his military service, Risom briefly returned to Knoll in New York, but soon decided to launch his own firm, Jens Risom Design (JRD), which he launched on 1 May 1946. Risom's reputation as a furniture designer continued to grow and Risom began to promote Scandinavian design in home furniture to the broader American public. In the 1950s, JRD ran a series of ads featuring photography by Richard Avedon and the slogan "The Answer is Risom." The result of this success was that in 1954, JRD launched a major Expansion of its production facilities. In the late 1950s, JRD shifted its focus away from home furnishings and towards office furniture, hospital furniture...
