Qing Dynasty Aesthetic Movement Imperial Red Lacquer Sofa / Bench, 19th Century

About the Item

This Imperial red Lacquer Chinese bench with gilt highlights was made in the late Nineteenth Century during the late Qing Dynasty. The Aesthetic Movement Chinese sofa is handmade using intricate Chinese joinery. The Chinese Bench comes in two parts with the sofa top sitting on a joined base with carved giltwood basket weave frieze raised on four chow legs with carved apron highlighted in gilt. The Chinese Lacquer Imperial Sofa has a solid wood seat with a framed back flanked between two opposing Pagoda style cabinets with carved basket weave giltwood freezes under the overhang. The sofa is elegantly decorated with geometric scrolls. The Aesthetic Movement Imperial Red Lacquer Sofa has a great worn red lacquer finish with age cracks give it a warm elegance. This important Qing Dynasty Aesthetic Movement Bench belongs in an Imperial Chinese Palace.
