About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning aged tan brown leather Gentleman’s four-seat club sofa finished with lion hairy paw feet and with a great history This piece is part of a suite, and with the original leather finish. These pieces were handmade in Chelsea in the late 1970s, they were shipped over to the British officer’s mess in a barracks in Germany, I’ve seen pictures of very grand high ranking military officials and even Royalty sitting in this suite, sadly the original owner kept a few choice pieces for themselves along with the pictures Each piece is exceptionally heavy, the bases are traditional English coil sprung, each spring is hand tied eight ways, hessian padded and strapped, the base cushions are deep heavy feather filled, the back cushions are sewn into place The upholstery has all been hand studded in place using oversized antiqued brass studs, the finish is truly stunning, these genuinely are the penultimate gentleman’s club seating, they are cool, comfortable and with very thick hard wearing leather The feet are very special, they are hand carved in the Georgian Irish manner and are lion hairy paw which is a very collectable feature on vintage seating. Dimensions: Height 84cm Width 260cm Depth 91cm with the back to the wall to the front edge of the sofa frame, 93cm to the front of the cushion Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
