Arne Jacobsen Stool Model "AJ3170" in Teakwood & Brass, Fritz Hansen, 1950s

About the Item

Rare and important Arne Jacobsen stool model AJ3170 from the earliest production at Fritz Hansen in the 1950s. The stool was designed by Jacobsen in 1954 in collaboration with Fritz Hansen around the same time as Arne Jacobsen created the Ant chair. While creating the chair Arne Jacobsen spent a lot of time at the Fritz Hansen factory testing, refining and finalizing his project. The result of the collaboration was presented to the market in 1954 as a three legged stool in veneer. In 1970 the stool was revitalized as we know it today, with four legs. The shell is in pressure molded veneer. The seat is made from plywood teak with a beautiful grain. The AJ3170 can be used for both seating and a handy side table. They stand out from the later production (and the numerous replicas on the market) by the high quality of materials and the wonderful brass fittings in the seat giving them their nickname "DOT-stools". From 1970 and onwards they were no longer made with three legs. Stamped by maker "FH" (Fritz Hansen). A very rare find in this condition.
