Baque Stool, Black

About

Baque is a turned wood stool put together by the tying and lacing of the rope that goes throughout the piece. Just like a drum - more specifically a Brazilian drum, "Alfaia"- the whole set is pulled and kept united by the binding system drawn from those musical instruments, in which the rope is the key component for the tuning and assembly. The laces' pattern is directly related to the most usual patterns found in the alfaias during the maracatu manifestation, a major Carnival sacred and profane celebration that takes place in Pernambuco. During the maracatu courting, every and each "maracatu nation" - musical percussive groups - play the alfaias according to a distinctive beat for each "nation", so-called Baque.
