Pair of Oak H M The Queen's Carving School Sandringham Stools Royal Interest

About the Item

A fabulous and quite rare pair of oak stools from HM The Queen's Carving School at Sandringham. Circa 1945. Free U.K. shipping. Overall they are in very good condition, and have been cleaned and waxed. Both are very sturdy in structure with no loose joints. There has been a repair to one of the legs at some point, the leg has a shake in the grain, a natural part of the wood which has a reduction in strength. I would say it has been knocked, and there has since been a dowel added to strengthen the leg. This is very sturdy and the stool is still very usable. Please refer to the last three photographs. They could also work well as side tables. The wood carving school at Sandringham Technical School achieved national acclaim, and the products were sold from the Sandringham Estate as well as from leading London department stores. Examples of work from the school remain on display at the Sandringham Estate. Sandringham House in Norfolk was purchased by Queen Victoria in 1862 and rebuilt by the Prince and Princess of Wales - later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra - in 1870. It has subsequently remained a favourite country retreat for the Royal Family. A provenance delivery letter from the carving school accompanies the stools. It reads as follows: HM The Queen's Carving School Sandringham 20/9/45 "Dear sir, I despatched from the above address yesterday packing case containing 2 oak stools and plain tray. They were sent --- paid per goods --- from Wolferton station L.N.E.R.
