About the Item

The Jamaica Stool is Spanish classic, and one of the best designed stools in all history. Designed in 1991 by interior designer Pepe Cortes, the stool remains as modern as ever. Its materials and durabiluty make the chair idea for a variety of settings. MATERIALS AND FINISHES Chromed steel structure with a swivel seat in cast aluminium anodized silver and AG3 scotch polish, or in solid beech (wood) and varnished. Also available in a lower version with wheels. MEASUREMENTS Aluminium seat H.45 cm H.66 cm H.77 cm Wood seat H.48 cm H.70 cm H.80 cm Pepe Cortés The work of Pepe Cortés straddles several design disciplines and manages to mark its era while remaining timeless. Born in Barcelona in 1946, Pepe Cortés studied at the Eina School, where he later lectured in design. Cortés founded the Open Design Group with a group of colleagues from different branches of the profession during the early 1970s. He is the author of iconic interior design projects of that era including "Oriol" and "Cubic" jewellery stores, the "Werner" record store and the offices of the "Poliglas" company. During the following decades he was recognised with a FAD award for the design of the "Azulete" restaurant. His designs for BD in the 1990s included the Jamaica stool, which is still in production today. He was awarded the Santiago Marco Prize medal in 2002 and the National Design Award in 2007. His work has appeared in various national and international publications and exhibitions.
