Artist statement
How to see, how to recognize. - When we recognize an object in front of us, we have unconsciously captured the actual image using past experience and knowledge. However, only if our own experience cannot derive an answer, such as an unfamiliar landscape or phenomena that makes you feel uncomfortable, we try to capture the images by all the elements from the object such as shape, colors and its position.
The 3D modeling capabilities used in many design fields are as similar as the process of cognition that humans perceive from the elements. Anyone can recognize the objects on the screen, but they just seem to exist digitally, and the truth is our experiences and knowledge create an illusion as if they actually do exist. Those objects on the screen can be called massless "0 " objects, which consist of multiple facets with no thickness. The relationship between on-screen phenomena and real-world empirical rule begins collapsing due to the unrealistic digital phenomena and errors that cause the objects to intersect, make holes in each other, and then our brain immediately starts to try to decipher the object in front of us not from own experiences and knowledges but the elements.
MASS brings these phenomena into actual three-dimensional space. It is an object that encourages us to see things in a way that is not based on our empirical rules. At first glance, these seem to have an irregular appearance, but the forms that emerge by capturing all the elements of surface transitions, depth and shading are a more "human" way of seeing things as a sensual perspective. The way we perceive things, not just tangible objects, changes the way we see them. In modern society where concepts and values are constantly being updated, it is significant to have a variety of perspectives in our lives.
