Found in England, this exceptional Ming Dynasty style barrel stool commands attention through the intricacy of its delicately carved and etched surface. Fashioned in the classical drum form long celebrated in Chinese interior arts, the piece is enveloped in a rich cinnabar-red lacquer whose depth and warmth evoke the grandeur of imperial craftsmanship. The etched line work reveals darker tones beneath the lacquer ground, creating an interplay of shadow and color, while delicate touches of detailing animate the composition with gilded and earthen hues. The silhouette is defined by pierced apertures on each face, their scalloped and cusped frames carved with the same ornamental style as the surrounding body.
