Handcrafted and Hand-Carved Adjustable American Arts & Crafts Oak Desk Chair

About the Item

Rare and great looking American chair. The design of this antique American desk chair looks to be influenced by the famous British Windsor chairs so maybe its maker was of British descent. Either way, this Arts & Crafts chair with its beautiful lines and handcrafted style elements is a real eyecatcher and a joy to look at. It has the most beautiful patina, the solid oakwood is in excellent condition and by rotating the upper part of this chair it is easily adjustable in height. The late 1800s and patented, cast iron mechanism underneath the seat makes this chair also tillable so that you can lean back without falling over. The only thing not Original are the four nuts and bolds that keep the legs in place (see image 8) and we think this chair may have stood on wooden or ceramic wheels. Finally the current upholstery is a little high and not perfectly comfortable, but that can obviously be changed to how you would like it to be. This rare and great looking American chair that we attribute to the Crocker Chair Mfg. Co from Wisconsin could also make the perfect 'furniture still life' (as we call it). Freestanding in your entrance or reading room it also is a marvellous decorative chair for any lover of rare and interesting, American made Arts & Crafts chairs.
