Restored Early 18th Century circa 1720 Wingback Armchair Cigar Brown Leather
We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning very rare original George I early 18th century circa 1720 high back wing armchair fully restored This chair is exceptionally rare, it is nearly 300 years old from new, all the timber is hand carved, the chair was made in a bit of a transition period for wingback armchairs, in the 17th century the chairs were still very much of the throne type with less of the leather upholstery and more of the nude timber, in the 18th century we saw the emergence of what we know today as the traditional Wingback with small wooden legs and a full body in fabric or leather. This chair has elements of ornate Irish carving throughout the legs, the feet are extravagantly carved claw and ball tipped with Acanthus leaves to the top As mentioned this chair is fully restored, my upholsterer has stripped it down to the frame, its had all the joints checked and secured, its then been rebuilt from the ground up using the original padding and internals where possible, the leather upholstery is all premium fully aniline 100% English cattle hide leather, it was upholstered plain, then our leather polishers have hand dyed both this amazing one off vintage cigar brown colour, basically this is the only type f this chair left in the world, it is a genuine one of a kind signature piece that commands attention no matter where it is Dimensions Height:- 127cm Width:- 68cm Depth:- 67cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
