This stunning piece comes from France, crafted around the year 1890. The antique French Empire style bookcase provides versatile and luxurious display of books, plates, and many other items. It will make a gorgeous addition to your home! The mahogany wood used exhibits a wonderful grain and beautiful patina. Bookmatched sections on the doors give an alluring visual effect. Meanwhile the medium brown color allows the piece to blend with any of today's modern decorating styles. The two doors feature flowing carved mahogany dividers between the panes of glass. These panes are old style, wavy glass where the ripples can be seen in certain lights. The right door includes a functional lock, but no key remains. The doors of this antique French Empire style bookcase remain closed even without being locked. Inside, five adjustable wooden shelves provide versatile display options. Each shelf has a molding for standing plates against on one side and a flat side for bookcase (just flip the shelf over). This means this antique bookcase functions easily as an office piece or a dining room piece. At some point, the interior was painted a pale yellow. Also, recently a small string light was added to the inside. This light works perfectly and provides great illumination to the inside The overall condition of this bookcase is very good. There are minor general wear marks present here and there. The back has a repaired split to it. A very small portion of the front right foot is missing. Finally there is a small spot of finish wear on the back of the left side. These all serve to add character and authenticity to the antique French Empire style bookcase. It will make a warm and charming addition to any home or office! Measures: Shelf depth is 11 5/8".
