    A Very Fine Late Regency Period Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase in the Manner of J. C. Loudon c.1825-30. Of fine and small size, this charming piece is in a restrained gothic style with arched astragal glazing bars to the upper bookcase doors and interesting panelled reserves to the secretaire drawer and the two cupboard doors below. Blind fretwork in the gothic taste also decorates the pilasters on the lower section which is further ornamented with a finely gadrooned edging and feet. The whole piece is veneered in finely selected mahogany of lovely figure which has achieved a very fine colour and patination and contrasts gloriously with the gilt metal handles on the secretaire drawer. The gilt brass central strip on the bookcase doors, both decorative and a way to keep out dust, is a very nice touch as well. The cupboard base features one traditional cupboard...
