17th Century Louis XIV Italian Buffet Walnut Sideboard Mantova

About the Item

Mantuan sideboard measuring 200 x 118 x 62 cm from the early seventeenth century all in walnut both outside and inside. The rounded rectangular structure is enriched by pilasters that frame the two doors described by mirrors decorated with polybulated geometric bas-relief tiles according to the tradition of late Renaissance architecture. This sideboard has in addition the rounded corners, due to the notch, according to Tuscan shapes of the full Renaissance. The pure line of the lexicon of the time is fully respected and the volume as well as the system in general anticipate solutions that will develop in northern Italy only at the end of the 17th century. The bevel of the top tends to lighten the walnut of considerable thickness. The Mantuan pattern of this sideboard is unmistakable with two doors separated by a central pillar part and with two small side doors almost at an angle that give balance, rhythm and harmony to the piece of furniture itself. All the parts of the furniture are marked by tiles applied with linearity characterized by a vertical trend. Furniture that expresses elegance and sobriety still following Renaissance canons and above all a symmetry of shapes. The paintings and works of art published here are my exclusive property and therefore are always available to be viewed, by appointment, in my exhibition sites located in Sanremo and Brescia. This item, like all our objects, is sold accompanied by a photographic certificate FIMA of authenticity and lawful origin; this document identifies the object by adding more value to the article.
