Antique Steage Picardie

About the Item

Antique steage Picardie made from quality french cherrywood and rubbed to a swanky glow. The style Provincial Louis XV. A seage picardie is a rare and useful piece of furniture. Looking at the piece you notice the break in the front. You have two cupboards with door and a center section recessed back. The two front galleries shaped to decorate two shelves. There is ample amount of storage exposed and concealed giving you the ability to display and hide items. One useful was to use this piece is to display a flat screen TV. Store cable box in cupboard portion or even rest on the exposed shelves but hidden from the eye. The length of the seage allows for a large size flat screen. Or put a beautiful trumeau mirror above and flanked by sconces. Each cupboard door has raised shaped moulding and a drawer above them. Two shelves per cupboard and functional locks. The center has a recessed breakfront and has the same likeness to the top of the seage. The top really gives the charm to the piece, seeing the markings of use, the examples of the value of this piece in the home and through out time. Charm! There is a piece of wood attached for displaying plates. The side are matched by raised panels and look at the joinery displayed all hand pegged. The shading differences( what was leaning there everyday? The piece rest upon front cabriole shaped legs which were added to through time due to the exposure to the floor and mopping, moving, weathering. This is typical of provincial pieces. Adding to the overall apeal of the seage, a wonderful honey worn shaped apron. From France circa date 1830. 86.5″ wide 21.25″ depth 51.25″ tall
