17th Century, German Wood Apothecary Cabinet with Fantasy Architectures

About the Item

17th century, German wood apothecary cabinet with fantasy architectures This small apothecary cabinet was made in the 17th century in Germany, in wood finely decorated with inlays depicting architectural patterns of fantasy, obtained with the wise use of different wooden essences whose colors create interesting chromatic effects and three-dimensional rendering. The apothecary cabinet can be stylistically compared to the rich and documented production started in the 16th century in Southern Germany, and which had as its main center the city of Augsburg. The production involved beautifully inlaid furniture, with architectural and genre representations, in various wood essences thus obtaining chromatic and perspective effects from refined virtuosity. On the front, the "battants" or lowering door has a central panel decorated with pyrographed inlays with an Italianized architectural whim, depicting the ruins of a classical temple with peristyle columns of the Corinthian order. Around the central panel there are several orders of reserves with a geometric pattern. Once the lowering has been opened, inlaid also inside, 9 drawers and door are richly inlaid with landscapes and architectural elements composed of volutes and small houses. The four bulbous feet are not coeval. This type of furniture, with drawers and small doors, was specially created to contain coins, medals, documents, small collectibles, jewelry. Today it is suitable to be inserted in any environment both as furniture and as a small container. It can be used in a study as a desk cabinet, in the bedroom as a jewelry box, in the living room to contain small objects.

  • 18th Century, Italian Louis XV Wood Center Table
    Located in IT
18th century, Italian Louis XV wood center table This elegant and refined center cabinet was made in Turin around the mid-18th century. Characteristic of the high Piedmontese cabinet making, for this piece of furniture, a veneer was chosen with the particular wood, applied on the piece of furniture with a sophisticated game of mirrors and patterns of the wood grain. The furniture has a shaped and wavy top, and the wooden essence creates a chromatic game called "a occhio di pernice" (partridge eye). On the front it consists of two drawers and a compartment protected by two doors. The opening system of the doors is sliding, very rare and difficult to achieve. The mouthpieces of the locks are in chiseled bronze and gold, as well as the tips of the four legs that are arched and graceful, typical of the Baroque. This cabinet is perfect for any room and can also be exposed in the center of a room thanks to its finish on all four sides. It is also suitable alongside modern and antique furniture.
